HAIRSPRAY! - Tuesday, February 26, 2013
My first experiences with hairspray are attached to the silver and pink can of Aqua Net Hairspray. Although it's been over 20 years, I have vivid memories of this wondrous product. I remember the looks of the can, the smell of the spray and the way that when I brushed my hair after applying it, it flaked whiter than the fresh Minnesotan snow outside my windows.
Hairspray first made it's debut during World War Two (1943 to be exact). While men went off to war, the government was researching how to best distribute insect spray to members of the military so that they could prevent malaria. Well, once the war ended, the beauty industry decided that those mosquito fighting aerosol cans would be perfect for delivering the style freezing sprays, and so hairspray was born. The first manufacturer of hairspray also produced the first spray paint and spray deodorant!
In the 50's, the bouffant was all the rage, and of course, to get a perfect bouffant, you needed hairspray, so the product's popularity skyrocketed, and Spray Net and Aqua Net brands were born. By the time pill boxes and bee hives arrived on the scene, made popular by Jackie Kennedy, women everywhere had to have a can of spray at the ready. The product was even out-selling lipstick!
In the 70's, the woman's lib movement and the peace loving hippies with long, free-flowing hair meant that hairspray would take a back seat in the world of fashion, but glam and punk rock would push it back to the forefront of the beauty scene, with new, environmentally friendly ingredients.
Today, you'd be hard pressed to find a lady's bathroom that doesn't hold at least one can of this wonder product, and in fact, it comes in so many hold varieties that you just might find two!

Randall Children's Hospital Toy Drive in Celebration of Mykayla! - Thursday, February 21, 2013
Friends of Ritual might remember that back in August, we held a head-shaving event for our seven year old friend, Mykayla. Two of our own staff members and countless other people- many of them complete strangers- came in to shave their heads in support of young Mykayla who has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. It was a fabulous event, for a great cause.
As Mykayla continues on with her cancer treatment at Randall Children's Hospital, we want to show her the continued love and support of the community she lives in, and we thought, how better that to collect toys for the hospital that she is receiving her treatments at? Randall Children's Hospital does great work and they have exceptional staff. One of our front desk coordinators, (Skyler) had open heart surgery there when she was a year and a half, so we know first hand what kind of work they put out!
We encourage YOU to get involved by checking out the WISH LIST and going on a shopping spree! Get you family involved, grab your friends and enlist the help of your co-workers. Everyone can appreciate how difficult it would be for a family to have a child in the hospital. Let's brighten the day of the many families and children for which this is a reality!
All toys can be brought to Ritual Hair Design between now and April 16th.

The CLOVER Project - Sunday, February 17, 2013
If you've hung around Ritual for any length of time, you know that our passion is all things "beauty". One of the things that we are serious about, is that each of us has the desire to feel beautiful, cared for, loved. That's what the CLOVER project is all about. From Valentine's Day through the week of St. Patrick's Day, we are encouraging you, our clients, our friends, to write down words on a green clover. It can be something silly, something thought provoking, something encouraging. You get to write what you'd like, so get creative. Not creative? Well, then, use Google and copy someone else's brilliant idea.
After the four weeks have passed, we'll attach some candy to the clovers, and head out on a mission of delivering them to random strangers. Just because. Just to give them a smile- just to brighten their day.
Your kind words into the hands of someone who just might be needing an uplifting thought. Nothing gets more beautiful than that!
We'll be sharing some of your brilliance on our Facebook page, so make sure that you have liked us and chosen to have us show up in your feed.
