Everyone Needs a Pep Talk Occassionally!- Monday, January 28, 2013
It's nearly the end of January, have you stuck to your New Year's Resolutions?
It's so easy to get distracted by the daily routine, as well as the things that pop up that aren't routine. Sometimes the best laid plans get tossed to the side because of the 'unexpected'. I've had a string of those days lately.
This is finals week for two of my kids, so after church on Sunday, when I had planned on cleaning the house and cleaning the carpets, I instead sat at the dining room table for 7 hours, teaching our youngest everything that she ever needed to know about the American Revolution, that she should have learned IN SCHOOL! When we started studying, she couldn't answer even one of the questions or give me any detail about the topics she was to be tested on just 24 hours later. By the end of the night, we were both exhausted, but she could not only answer every question correctly, but she could speak, in detail about each event. Seriously, perhaps, I WAS meant to be a teacher (j/k!!! No thank you!).
So, today, I wake up, planning to get the kids to school, get my butt to the gym and come back, clean my carpets, hit an 11:15am appointment and then come back and clean the house before my kids get out of school and need to be picked up. Great plans- until the car decides it doesn't want to keep running once it's started. All plans are out the window as we shift who is driving the kids and focus on getting an appointment at the car dr. and borrowing my mom-in-law's car so I can try to get to my 11:15am appointment (forget the gym, THAT class was at 9:15am!).
I am telling you this NOT so that you can know that I am super up on the American Revelution, Andrew Jackson & The Whiskey Rebellion AND my car has left me stranded. I am telling you this because sometimes it's easy to feel like it is just ME that these things happen to, so I know you must feel like that too. Life happens to all of us. It's not just me, it's not just you. When the day's plan gets tanked, it can be difficult to feel like you are making progress on your goals and resolutions. It would be easy to give up, but if you REALLY want to make things happen, you need to push forward! Tomorrow it is back to work after what has turned into a weekend completely unlike the one that I planned, so I decided I needed a little pep talk, and it's just too dang awesome NOT to share. Jump on the road that leads to AWESOME, and have yourself a great week~
One of our front desk coordinators has flown the coop for a bit and has landed in New Delhi, India. She is working for two weeks with International Children's Network in three different orphanages. We wish her safe travels and can't wait to hear the stories of her adventures when she gets back. Do lots of good over there, Skyler!
